The Boston Smoked Fish Company produces the highest quality smoked fish available using sustainably harvested fish, locally sourced ingredients, and all natural preparation.
We hand select the freshest fish daily from the docks in Boston, expertly match it with fresh herbs and spices, and gently smoke it in small batches over specific varieties of North American hardwoods.
We believe it is important for people to know what they eat, and that is why we use locally-sourced ingredients from the communities in which we work and live.
It all started in the backyard in 2013 when two smoked fish enthusiasts and food lovers decided to try and push the envelope, making smoked fish with a richer more delicious flavor while being minimally processed with honest, simple ingredients.
Working with a home smoker and experimenting with 72 different brine recipes, multiple sources of fresh fish, and different hardwoods, Chris and Matt finally found what they were looking for. To share their passion and delicious results with friends and families, they purchased a vacuum sealer and began packaging the fish they smoked.
You’ll taste a wonderful harmony of flavors–all from whole and honest ingredients–in each bite of our smoked fish. Blessed with the abundance of farmers market opportunities in the Greater Boston area, Chris and Matt turned in their former day jobs as lawyers and started smoking fish full time. Today we pursue the art of smoking fish at our new home on the Historic Boston Fish Pier. The rest is history!
Matt is on a mission to share with his fellow Bostonians how delicious smoked fish can be, and that it can be made right here at home with wholesome, local ingredients.
From hand-selecting the fresh fish each morning on the Boston Fish Pier (much of it caught just hours earlier), Matt oversees the marriage of fresh fish, spices, and aromatic smoke in small batches to make sure what is on your plate is the best possible smoked fish you can find.
Matt enjoys seeing our smoked fish leave our doors knowing that it will make your breakfast, lunch, dinner or party a memorable occasion. He also enjoys playing hockey, hiking, fishing, playing the violin, and cheering on his alma mater, the Michigan State Spartans. Matt lives in Quincy, MA with his wife and three childern.
Chris channels his passion for premium-quality Boston Smoked Fish Co. products towards fostering relationships within the whole foods community. He seeks proprietors and businesses who share our values of sustainability, delectability, and all-natural wholesome preparation.
Chris enjoys promoting the numerous benefits of sea-to-table, and eating locally. His goal is to make “smoked fish” a staple part of Boston’s reputation as a center for world-class seafood, by collaborating with other purveyors of locally-sourced food.
In his spare time Chris enjoys going to Fenway, practicing piano, and heading out on the ocean whenever he can.
